As you may have read, Google has updated Google Discover to highlight “Creators” and, more importantly for you, has launched the ability for users to follow media outlets and content creators directly in Google Discover. You can read the announcement here.

This update matters because Google is known to take user actions into account when ranking content. Generating “follows” in Google Discover can therefore help push your articles higher and grow your audience. We’re here to help!

Since Google does not openly share each media’s internal Profile, we’ve added a new feature in DiscoverSnoop to display it. Just visit a domain info page — for example, CNN — and you’ll now see a red button labeled “View creator profile page.”

Clicking this will open your internal Google Discover profile (for example this one for CNN). On that page, you’ll find your linked social networks, your indexed publications (a useful way to verify if your content is correctly indexed), and a short description of your site.

Here are our recommendations:

  • First, check that all your social networks are listed. If any are missing, update the “sameAs” tags on your homepage (your SEO team will know how to do this).
  • Review your site description. If it’s not accurate, you can update it. In most cases, it’s sourced from Wikipedia, so update your entry there. If not, search the exact text on Google to find the source and update it.
  • Finally — and most importantly — we strongly recommend driving clicks to the “Follow on Google” button. Share this profile page with your audience and encourage them to follow your site.

If you check your domain in DiscoverSnoop and don’t see the “View creator profile page” button, there are two possible reasons:

  1. The feature hasn’t yet rolled out in your country (the rollout is still ongoing).
  2. We haven’t yet identified your creator page, but no worries — it will appear soon. Please check back in a few hours. We’re ingesting the data as quickly as possible, and we wanted to let you know right away that DiscoverSnoop has this new feature live just hours after Google’s release.

Your account manager is available if you need more information.
